John the Baptist shone to the extent that men of Jerusalem and Judea came to rejoice in his light for a season. Yes he burned so brightly to affect the dead, dull consciences of the men of his day, touched many lives, sins confessed, and the way of righteousness shown to varied classes of the society. This sort of fire should burn in your heart and life. Those who move others to righteousness will not only shine but also burn as fire. 'They looked unto him, and were lightened'. You too can shine in your school, home, community where you are. What then is fire?

It is God's glowing life in a boy or a girl. It is fresh, fervent and flowing love of God in a person. It is simple faith. It is blessed hope of the redeemed. Fire is reflected in passion, purpose, pursuit and determination. It is utter devotion to God. Spiritual fire is not sham, noise, or a form of godliness. Fire burns and sets ablaze. Fire is the Holy Spirit burning in and through humble, holy, obedient and faithful boys and girls. How then can we have fire?

Repent of all known sins and turn wholeheartedly to God. Acquaint yourself with God through His word. Be obedient to his commandments. Live a distinct Christian life different from the sinful environment you are- school or neighbourhood. Maintain a heart longing and craving for more of Christ. Hunger and thirst for God as you seek Him daily in devotion. At every given opportunity share your faith with other boys or girls. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven”.

Challenge “Be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world”.

Prayer Holy Lord, grant that your love and light will shine through me.
