Danger of False Security
Text: JUDGES 18:1-10
Memory verse: “Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man” (Judges 18:7).
Many plod the path of least resistance, where they believe life challenges are feeble. Yet, every life experiences a cluster of challenges - stiff challenges - which only the valiant would dare contend with.
From our text, the inhabitants of Laish dwelt in false security. They had no watchmen to guard their city, and did not take care to furnish themselves with weapons of war for their defence. There was none to restrain them from vice, and punish them for it, or even to reprove and correct them; therefore they lived in disorderly and dissolute manner, whereby they became the more easy prey to others. They were glorying in their prosperity until danger struck.
Many are living in false security today. They assume danger is too far away to reach them. ‘It-will-never-happen-to-me’ syndrome has driven many to live careless lives and not to prepare for eternity. Many believe someone else will die of cancer, heart attack, or be involved in automobile accident but not themselves. An earthquake, tornado or hurricane attack may hit somewhere else but not their community. That is why death usually takes many unprepared.
Such are some, sleeping in jeopardy of their soul. Seek the Lord while He may be found and call upon Him while He is near.
Thought for the day: Plan ahead: it wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.
