You are all too familiar with checkpoints, aren't you? There, policemen check the validity of your vehicle papers to ensure you are on the right side of the law. Merchants carry out stock-taking at the close of a year as part of preparations for a new trading year. Even the regular examinations you write are a form of checkpoint. Checkpoints are for the purpose of detecting and correcting lapses along the course of life.
You have lived your life all these many days and years. Have you ever stopped to check up the direction you are headed? Spiritually, are you headed in the right direction, heaven? Academically, are you headed in the direction of success? Socially, are you headed in the direction of profitable relationships at school and in the neighbourhood? David sets us a good example of a man who, though very busy, yet found time for regular checkpoints before the Lord. "Search me O God", he prayed.
David knew he could not trust his own judgment. Neither can you. Let God examine your heart and the general tendency of your life. Whatever He tells you is right, do it.
Challenge: Life is not just a great party, it is serious business. Get serious.
Prayer: Search me O God…try me…lead me, in Jesus' Name.
